Custom Orthotics

What it is?

Custom orthotics look like insoles, but are biomechanical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance. Orthotics work on your feet much like glasses work on your eyes; they reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. When made properly, they feel great to wear since they provide your feet with the support they need.

Who can benefit?

Orthotics

The symptoms of poor foot mechanics can include any one of the following:
- localized foot pain
- bunions, hammer toes
- arch or heel pain
- leg or knee pain
- hip or back pain
- even neck pain

Orthotics

What to expect?

Dr. Janzen goes through a full history of your current condition as well as a complete foot and lower extremity examination. The main component of the examination is the use of a specialized computer technology called the Gaitscan.

The Gaitscan is a computerized pressure plate system that scans your feet as you walk to analyze what your feet are doing while you walk and stand. The computer maps the different foot pressures to determine where you have too little or too much pressure.

This enables Dr. Janzen to have a clear picture of your foot mechanics and determine whether you would benefit from wearing custom made foot orthotics. From all of this data a custom foot orthotic can be made through the Orthotic Group laboratory.
